Eligibility
To be eligible for registration in British Columbia you must have:
  • completed a nursing education program deemed equivalent to nursing education programs in British Columbia;
  • provide proof of competence to practise as a nurse such as nursing education, practice hours in the previous five years, employment references and registration examination results;
  • have no outstanding criminal charges or convictions relevant to the practice of nursing or College registration;
  • have satisfactory employment references, registration in good standing from other jurisdictions, no health problems that impair ability to practise and be fluent in English.
You may want to start work in British Columbia while you are waiting for your registration to be processed. If you hold a practising registration in another Canadian jurisdiction you can usually be granted temporary registration to work in B.C. within 10 days of the required documents being received by CRNBC. When your application has been received you will be given a pre-registration number.


Registration Process
Return your completed application form to CRNBC with the processing fee of $68.90, and proof of identity such as a photocopy of birth certificate, passport, immigration papers or citizenship card, provided it shows birth name and date of birth. You must also include:
  • Employer Reference for Nurse Registration (Form 37)
    Send this form to an employer for whom you have worked as a nurse for a minimum of three months in the last five years. If you have not worked as a nurse in the past five years, no reference is required. Your employer must send this completed form to CRNBC.
  • Professional experience record (Form 44)
    Include full name and address for each employer and signed consent. Identify which employer(s) you have requested a ryeference from. Send to CRNBC with your application form.
  • Criminal record check authorization
    Return this completed form with the $20 processing fee to CRNBC. Click here for the Criminal Record Checks Fact Sheet
  • Verification request (Form 25)
    Send this form to the registering body where you first obtained registration and to all other registering bodies where you have subsequently registered. Applications cannot be assessed until verification is received. If you are currently working in Canada, verifications are usually required only from the jurisdictions where you first registered and where you are currently registered. The Form 25 is included in your registration package. The registering body must send the completed form to CRNBC.
CRNBC will notify the applicant in writing to confirm that the application has been received. Based on the initial review of your application, you will be notified if there are any outstanding documents, discrepancies within the application, or concerns with the application. These must be addressed prior to continuation of the assessment of your applicatio.

Employers are contacted for references, and CRNBC must receive verifications from other regulatory bodies and satisfactory employer references before assessment can begin.

When CRNBC has been notified that any outstanding requirements have been met you will be eligible for registration. Return your completed registration form to CRNBC. When CRNBC receives the criminal record clearance, registration is complete.


Temporary Registration
If you intend to work as a nurse in British Columbia while your registration is being processed, complete an application for temporary registration. Submit the application form with the applicable fee and a photocopy of your current practising registration card from another Canadian jurisdiction.
