Relocation Policy
The Health Authorities of British Columbia are pleased to offer generous relocation reimbursement to new employees who relocate within the province, as well as to those who relocate from outside of the province.

Relocation assistance of up to $3,000 will be provided to new employees relocating from other areas of BC, providing such relocation involves either a distance of 150 km or more or ferry travel.

Relocation assistance of up to $5,000 will be provided to new employees who relocate from other Provinces (outside of BC) and other countries.

The employee is required to provide a commitment for a one-year period. The employee will be required to reimburse the Health Authority on a pro-rated basis should they terminate their employment prior to the completion of one year.

The following expenses are eligible for relocation assistance up to the maximum approved by the Employer. Anything not included is not covered. Original receipts must be kept and submitted to the employer to be eligible for reimbursement.

  • Moving of household goods by a professional mover
  • Air travel for employee, and immediate family members who will be relocating to British Columbia with the employee (note: only one-way air travel is covered. If the cost of return fair is lower than one way, the employer will reimburse half the cost of the return flight).
  • First month's rent or temporary lodging upon arrival in British Columbia
  • Cost of immigration medical examination
  • Canadian High Commission - Employment Authorization for the employee (Work Permit)
  • Cost of qualifying/upgrading course(s) required for employee to obtain CRNBC/CRPNBC eligibility (note that processing and registration fees are not covered). *Subject to offer of employment
  • Cost of Emergency medical coverage during first three months of employment (can be purchased upon arrival in British Columbia).
All other expenses are the responsibility of the new employee. All reimbursement is in the form of a forgivable loan, forgiven upon completion of a 1-year commitment.

  • Pick up at accommodation next day and transport to HRDC to apply for social insurance number
  • Pick up and assist with registration process for school aged children
  • Transportation to employer to complete any necessary paperwork
  • General advice - transportation options, etc.
