Located in the southwest corner of BC, nature is at your doorstep throughout the Vancouver Coast and Fraser Valley areas. From the picturesque fishing towns and local artist communities of the Sunshine Coast, to the spectacular snow-capped mountains of Whistler and the hot springs of the eastern Fraser Valley, endless leisure activities and wilderness opportunities are within easy reach. The area is blessed with a diverse climate and terrain and is home to lush coastal rainforest, placid mountain lakes, glacial peaks, and roaring river.
This region is the economic heart of the province, featuring a broad manufacturing, trade and service base, and is also active in agriculture, tourism and forestry. It is well served by all major modes of transportation. Vancouver, BC's largest city, is located within this region and is home to the province's major medical and research centres as well as the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission are among the other cities in the Fraser Valley.
The Vancouver Coast and Fraser Valley geographic region is made up of three health authorities; Fraser Health Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and Providence Health Care, and the Provincial Health Services Authority.
