Beautiful British Columbia
Welcome to the Baby BC Website! My name is Kim Williams, and I am the Provincial Director of Specialized Perinatal Services, a program of the Provincial Health Authority. It is my sincere pleasure to extend to each of you a warm welcome and invitation to learn more about Baby BC.

In support of perinatal planning for the province, "A Plan for Specialized Perinatal Services in BC" (dated June 13, 2005) was developed by the PSPS Steering Committee, a provincial group of representatives from each of the respective Health Authorities, bcbedline, BC Ambulance, Ministry of Health and other relevant stakeholders. This report identified and quantified the need for additional neonatal and obstetrical beds to support both current and projected increase in births between now and 2020. It included a summary of historical birth trends and the current status of specialized obstetrical and neonatal beds in BC. To support this bed plan, an exciting recruitment proposal was developed entitled "Baby BC".

The purpose of initiating Baby BC was to create a collaborative recruitment process and workforce plan to deliver qualified neonatal and obstetrical specialty nurses in partnership with BC's Health Authorities. The success of such an innovative partnership recruitment campaign model will support the implementation of aligning the provincial strategic bed plans with a proactive global workforce plan. A PSPS recruitment task force group comprised of both clinical nursing and human resources representatives from each of the Health Authorities, the Chief of Nursing, PHSA , and Health Match BC was developed. Further project partner contacts include the Human Resource Services Department of Canada and the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia.

On behalf of Baby BC, I thank you for your interest in perinatal and neonatal employment opportunities in BC. We invite you to further explore our unique opportunities in commencing or expanding your nursing career path and professional development, while assisting us to optimize maternal and neonatal health throughout the province of British Columbia.
